What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

Naturopathic Doctors (ND) are educated and trained in accredited naturopathic medical colleges. They diagnose, prevent, and treat acute and chronic illnesses to restore and establish optimal health by supporting the person's inherent self-healing process. Rather than just suppressing symptoms, Naturopathic Doctors work to identify underlying causes of illness and develop personalized treatment plans to address them. Their Therapeutic Order™ identifies the natural order in which all therapies should be applied to provide the greatest benefit with the least potential for damage. Source

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a systems biology–based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to an individual’s illness.

As the graphic illustrates, a diagnosis can be the result of more than one cause. For example, depression can be caused by many different factors, including inflammation. Likewise, a cause such as inflammation may lead to a number of different diagnoses, including depression. The precise manifestation of each cause depends on the individual’s genes, environment, and lifestyle, and only treatments that address the right cause will have lasting benefit beyond symptom suppression. Aubrey Borkowski, LPN

NURSE

  • By day, Aubrey is the nurturing LPN, diving headfirst into health and wellness, armed with a passion for natural healing and an unquenchable curiosity that keeps her learning something new every day.

  • Aubrey, the LPN with a flair for design and a zest for life, originally from Horace, ND. Aubrey's journey began at Alexandria Technical College where she picked up an Associate's Degree in Interior Design in 2002, because why not start with making rooms look pretty before making people feel better? Fast forward to 2011, Aubrey took a detour to MSCTC and emerged as a fully-fledged nurse.

When she's not on her noble nursing quest, Aubrey is a renaissance woman of hobbies. She reads cookbooks like they’re gripping novels, burns wood (artistically, not for warmth), crochets with the precision of a spider, and enjoys painting. Her kitchen escapades are legendary, producing baked goods that could make a pastry chef weep with envy.

Aubrey’s nights are filled with the smooth sounds of jazz – think Frank Sinatra, Norah Jones, and Ella Fitzgerald. Her literary tastes lean towards the uplifting, with "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale topping her list. For movie nights, she gravitates towards classics like "Grumpy Old Men," "New in Town," and "Family Stone," proving that her taste is as eclectic as it is impeccable.

Motivated by a boundless excitement for what each new day might bring (seriously, this is not sarcasm), Aubrey lives by Maya Angelou's words: “People will forget what you said, People will forget what you did, but People will never forget the way you made them feel.” And she applies this philosophy to her work and personal life, making everyone around her feel cherished and cared for.

When it comes to sports, she’s all about the Wild Hockey Team, cheering them on with the same enthusiasm she brings to everything else. Her best vacation ever? A whirlwind 10-day tour of Ireland with her grandma, mom, sisters, and cousins. Next on her bucket list? A dream trip to Italy, cruising Rome on a Viking Cruise, devouring homemade pasta, and sampling wines at picturesque vineyards.

At home, Aubrey is the proud caretaker of a dog and two cats, not to mention two beautiful grown children, Jada and Kyan, who are the apples of her eye.

So, next time you see Aubrey, whether she's nursing someone back to health or whipping up a culinary masterpiece, know that you're in the presence of someone truly extraordinary, living life with a passion and energy that’s simply contagious.
